About Caitlin

Striving for a more homegrown, handmade, and natural life.

Hi, I’m Caitlin!

Homegrown, handmade, natural

I’m the wife of an avid outdoorsman.
He fishes, hunts, and traps to provide us with fresh, lean meat all year long.
(And to send trophy pics around to his buddies for bragging rights.)

My greatest calling is being a Mama.
I have this little wild man, his sister due in December, and three angel babies.

I grew up on a small horse farm in western North Carolina,
but Dustin and I moved all over the state for his job our first few years of marriage.

After moving our meager container gardens from rental to rental, we knew we wanted to settle down with a real garden and small farm someday.

Now that we are back in our hometown, we have a small garden that feeds our family throughout the year and a flock of backyard chickens that treat us with fresh eggs, when they’re in the mood.  Someday I will have dairy goats or a milk cow.

I am all about healthy eating and love creating meals from scratch with whatever we have growing in our garden.  Over the last few years, I’ve also learned how to preserve that homegrown goodness to last us all winter long.

My natural “medicine cabinet” consists of essential oils and plant-based supplements that keep me and my family healthy by working with our bodies, and I work with an entire community of like-minded folks to share our knowledge and empower others to take control of their health.

Thank you so much for stopping by our homestead in progress!

We are slowly sculpting our own homegrown, handmade, and natural life, complete with lots of trial and error.
I hope you enjoy coming along for the journey!

Hi There,, I own a produce store in Valdese NC. When crops are in season we sell only locally grown pesticide free produce. Upon meeting my new insurance man at Beck Ins in Morganton, I told him of my store and he directed me to you folks when I told him I was having difficulty finding local farms to buy my produce from. I am hoping perhaps you will contact me and we can conduct business together with me buying produce from your farm as it comes into season. Please contact me and let me know if this is possible. My contact number is 828-499-0490. The name of my store is John’s Market on Main. We have a FB so look at our page if you would like to see about us. I am not very computer literate so the FB page is rather limited. I look forward to hearing from you because I really need to get my plans together for where I will be purchasing my produce from this year.
    Thank you.
    Donna

What a fun life! I’m such a city girl and wouldn’t make it on the farm too long but I would love to visit and enjoy one for a change to get away from big buildings and cement.

I love visiting the city, but it’s just too busy for me to live there. I get stressed with all of the traffic at Walmart (but who doesn’t), much less in a big city!

Visiting from the Blog Life group. What a cute family you have! I love that your dog’s name is Cletus. My husband and son call each other that all the time. Looking forward to following along with you!

Thanks for visiting! My husband picked the dog’s name, it’s actually Cletus Woolybugger….where do they come up with this stuff??!! Look forward to getting to know you better thru this group!

What a neat story! Hubby and I used to live out in the country with our own (tiny!) garden and raised our own chickens. I loved it, but I’m now also loving living in the city these days. Can’t wait to follow along on your adventures!

We are still learning as we go along, but we really love having our own garden. It’s super convenient! Look forward to getting to know you better!

I think of myself as “semi-crunchy” at this point in time, but I would totally love to be self sustaining someday. I think it’s so awesome! Can’t wait to follow along more!

    • Caitlin says:

Hahaha semi-crunchy, love it! I’m definitely just getting started, but it takes baby steps! Look forward to getting to know you better!

oh my gosh! That lifestyle looks so fun! I grew up in a smaller town in Georgia and thought I lived a “country” lifestyle. But living on a farm like that sounds like a dream! I can’t wait to follow along and learn more!
